The ARR formula
ARR = MRR × 12
Annual Recurring Revenue is simply Monthly Recurring Revenue multiplied by 12 months.
Example
Your monthly recurring revenue is $8,000.
$8,000 × 12 = $96,000 ARR
Worked example: 150 accounts at $80
150 active accounts each paying an average of $80 a month.
- MRR = 150 × $80 = $12,000.
- ARR = $12,000 × 12 = $144,000.
- One-off setup fees and usage overages are not part of this figure.
What to do next: Use the same definition of an active account over time, and review ARR alongside churn so the run-rate is not overstated.
Why it's free
ARR is a run-rate, not revenue already earned or guaranteed. It is useful for comparing recurring-revenue businesses, but excludes one-off fees and does not reflect churn or growth over the year.
