Free Hash Generator – SHA-256, SHA-1, SHA-512 Online
Hash Generator — free, instant, no sign-up needed.
A hash turns text into a fixed-length fingerprint. Type or paste text, choose SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512, and read the hex digest. It runs in your browser, so the text never leaves your device. MD5 is not offered.
Create a SHA hash of any text to check file or string integrity, compare values or generate a fingerprint for a config or test.

Why it's free
Developers and marketers meet hashes when verifying downloads, hashing identifiers for privacy-preserving matches or comparing two strings. Hashing in the browser with the built-in Web Crypto API means the input is never sent to a server.
What you get
- A lowercase hexadecimal SHA digest of the exact text entered
Who uses the Hash Generator
- Developers checking string integrity and test fixtures
- Analysts hashing identifiers before sharing a matching list
- Anyone comparing two strings without reading them
How it works
- Type or paste the text to hash
- Choose SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512
- Copy the hex digest
Expert tips for using the Hash Generator
- Prefer SHA-256 or stronger for anything security-related; SHA-1 is only suitable for non-security checks.
- Hashing is not encryption and cannot be reversed, but short or guessable inputs such as emails can be matched by brute force. Do not treat hashed personal data as anonymous.
- Normalise input first (trim spaces, lowercase) when you need two systems to produce the same hash.
Frequently asked questions
Does the hash generator support MD5?
No. The browser's built-in crypto does not provide MD5, and MD5 is no longer considered secure. SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are available.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The hash is calculated in your browser with the Web Crypto API, so the text stays on your device.
Can a hash be reversed to get the original text?
Not directly. But short or predictable inputs can be guessed and checked against their hash, so hashing alone does not make personal data anonymous.
Is the Hash Generator free?
Yes. The Hash Generator is free with no login, credits, paid plan or card. Browser-based tools can be used without a generation allowance.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Open the page and use the Hash Generator straight away. Your input is processed on your device and is not uploaded.
